We do not just state our belief in these values, we seek to embody them in everything that we do. We are guided by our belief that every individual should feel comfortable and rejoice in being their complete authentic selves – at work and outside of work. Juneteenth 2022
For Juneteenth this year, we decided to ask those around us what Juneteenth means to them. Here are their answers:
There is an African proverb that states “It takes an entire village to raise a child”. That an entire community that interacts positively with children will ensure that children grow in a healthy environment. This is true for all communities. As Malbekians, our focus is to nurture and interact positively with our communities, whether it is here at Malbek, or where we live. Through positive interaction, we promote emotional and social well-being and create cooperation. Our goal is to encourage, promote and support participation in local community events and by inviting community leaders to speak to Malbekians about important social issues. Through cooperation, understanding, and participation we are ensuring our “village” is a safe and healthy place to thrive.
Communication is the heart of all relationships, and that's true for our DEI work as well. Our committee ensures that our teams and customers alike know what we stand for at Malbek and how we can all participate in our DEI initiatives. Through these, we seek to promote employee engagement through initiatives and ideas, promoting initiatives and partnerships through social media and internal communications, and acting as doers with realistic, actionable goals. Of course, communication is multi-directional, so we also take seriously the task of gathering feedback from our community.
Committing to diversity and inclusion is about far more than just statements and platitudes. It is about actively living and breathing those things that diversity and inclusion embody. Our policy work is the backbone, the guiding force, of all our other initiatives. It is what defines our highest expectations that we hold for each other to live our values, while building the structures of care that allow our employees to bring our authentic selves to all we do.
With our spirit of collaboration, creative innovation, and all the ways we have fun and take care of each other and our customers, where would we be without our Malbekians? That’s why learning is so important to us: to improve on our greatest resource. Whether it’s tackling unconscious biases or better understanding our colleagues around the globe, our natural curiosity tells us there is always more to learn. We feed that curiosity as a DEI committee, using training and education to equip each of us to strengthen Malbek as a diverse, equitable, and inclusive company.
